It’s not too late to register for the California Bicycle Coalition’s California Bicycle Summit, taking place from October 15-17 at the Center for Healthy Communities in Los Angeles. The summit is open to active transportation practitioners, advocates, and community residents working to make bicycling an affordable, inclusive, and equitable form of transportation for all. Attendees can expect to benefit from a variety of presentations, workshops, roundtable discussions, lightning talks, and walking and biking tours geared towards making fostering a sense of equity and inclusion among the active transportation community.
The guiding theme for this year’s summit is intersections, alluding to both physical and theoretical meanings of the word. According to the Summit’s website, the conference will dive into:
“the physical intersections in our communities that should be safe places to traverse and converse instead of the hazardous injury hotspots they too often are; and the theoretical intersections that define how we each approach bicycling via other issues, such as land use and housing, other forms of mobility, how race and class have impacted and continue to impact transportation justice, and the urgency of climate change.”
The California Bicycle Summit is an exciting opportunity to build relationships with planners, policymakers, designers, and community organizers from private and public sectors, while learning from each other’s overlapping challenges and successes. In order to make the event as inclusive as possible, event organizers have offered more than a 100 free and discounted tickets and will pay special attention to ensure that the event is represented by a diverse group of organizations.
