Safe Systems Summit: Redefining Transportation Safety

The Safe Systems Summit is an opportunity to connect with a wide range of stakeholders, communities and individuals who are leading innovative research in reducing transportation injuries and fatalities through the Safe Systems approach and systems thinking principles, tools and techniques. The summit will be a learning environment of diverse expertise where participants can share research findings, discuss advanced technologies and collaborate with other researchers and professionals to explore the future direction of transportation safety in the U.S.
Safe Systems approach?
A Safe System model aims to design a roadway system that prevents injuries and deaths despite human errors. This approach also draws from an ecological perspective on the built environment and proactive methods to address risk. The Safe Systems concept originated in Sweden in the 1990s and has been adopted in other countries since. Additionally, a fundamental tenet of this approach is the cross-collaboration of theories, methodologies and skills. The Safe Systems Summit aims to bring people from different research and professional backgrounds to convene and work towards a shared vision.
Registration fees are as followed:
- Participant ($35): General registration for researchers, practitioners, and state and corporate professionals.
- Student ($20): Discounted registration for undergraduate and graduate (Master’s and Ph.D.) students.
- Group ($ varies): General registration for a group of participants and/or students can be completed by one contact person. There is no limit to the size of a group.
