Data-Driven Mobility Strategies for Multi-Modal Transportation

Host: National Institute for Transportation and Communities

Wednesday, September 15, 2021 | 10:00am - 11:00am PT | Register(link is external)(link is external)

Multimodal transportation systems (e.g., walking, cycling, automobile, public transit, etc.) are effective in increasing people’s travel flexibility, reducing congestion, and improving safety.  Therefore, it is critical to understand what factors would affect people’s mode choices. With advanced technology, such as connected and automated vehicles, cities are now facing a transition from traditional urban planning to developing smart cities. To support multimodal transportation management, this study serves as a bridge to connect speed management strategies of conventional corridors to connected vehicle corridors.

This webinar is based on a study funded by the National Institute for Transportation and Communities (NITC) and conducted at the University of Arizona, University of Utah, and Portland State University

Linework, Models, Counters... OH MY: A Utah Story of Multi-Agency Collaboration to Develop Active Transportation Data and Tools

Host: Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals (APBP)

Wednesday, Septmember 15, 2021 | 12:00pm - 1:00pm PT | Register(link is external)

In the last two years Utah has made huge strides in active transportation (AT) data collection, curation, and distribution. The key to success continues to be a multi-agency partnership, and tackling the challenge through a logical order of projects. This session will highlight four Utah AT information resource initiatives: development and stewardship of a robust, integrated AT GIS database; the region's first bicycle travel demand model that estimates trip distribution and bike volumes based on human and infrastructure characteristics; a statewide effort to develop expansion factors for the now freely available Strava Metro app-based data; and the creation of a statewide repository to house AT counter data. The success of these projects is rooted in developing and sustaining strong collaboration that has connected partner priorities, available resources, and technical expertise.

Re-thinking the Role of Enforcement in Traffic Safety Work: Our Roles within Vision Zero

Host: Vision Zero Network

Wednesday,  September 29, 2021 | 10:00am - 11:00am PT | Register(link is external)(link is external)

Recognizing and addressing inequities and injustices in traffic safety efforts must be a priority in Vision Zero work. To this end, many communities are re-thinking the traditional role of enforcement in traffic safety work. We invite you to two upcoming discussions to support critical thinking about – and actions – to ensure Vision Zero efforts are both effective and equitable.

In this first conversation, we will reflect on ways that our work within traditional traffic safety models – particularly related to law enforcement and the criminal justice system – perpetuates unjust and unsafe systems for people of color and low-income people. And, we’ll discuss ways to adjust Vision Zero efforts for positive change.
