Federal Fiscal Year 2027 California OTS Grant Program

Each year, through grant funding made available to California by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) provides funding for innovative, evidence-based programs and technologies designed to make California's roadways safer.

2026 National Walking College

America Walks has officially launched their 2026 Walking College application. The Walking College is an online educational program geared toward early-to-middle-stage advocates who are eager to organize their communities to create walkable, vibrant, safe, and accessible places. Those who are chosen to participate in the program are asked to commit to 5 to 10 hours a week, attend all group and mentoring sessions, and complete a Walking Action Plan by the end of the program.

AARP Community Challenge Grant program

The AARP Community Challenge Grant program has funded over 2,000 grants since 2017, totaling over $24 million for projects that accelerate community change. The 2026 grant cycle is looking to fund projects that: deliver tangible improvements to communities, such as new crosswalks, benches, bike lanes, housing designs, and public space enhancements; leverage additional support from public, private, and philanthropic sources; help communities overcome policy barriers and implement lasting change; and foster new collaborations and increase community engagement. In order to be eligible, applicants must be from a 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and 501(c)(6) nonprofit organizations recognized by the IRS, a Government entity, or other type of organizations considered on a case-by-case basis.

Active Transportation Program (Cycle 8)

Caltrans has launched the eighth cycle of their Active Transportation Program (ATP) and are accepting proposals! The Program consists of both federal and state transportation funding that powers programs including the Bicycle Transportation Program (BTA), Safe Routes to School (SR2S), and Transportation Alternatives Programs (TAP). The program encourages increased modes of active transportation such as walking and biking in communities across the state of California.
