WEBINARS

New Strategies for Achieving 100% Seat Belt Use

Host:  GHSA

July 13, 2022 | 11:00 am PT | Register

The nationwide seat belt use rate was 90.4% in 2021. What is it going to take to get that remaining 9.6% of motor vehicle occupants to buckle up, especially as new NHTSA data indicate that unrestrained vehicle occupant fatalities increased 3% last year and remain above pre-pandemic levels? Innovative programs are needed to address this pervasive issue and make sure everyone is properly restrained in a seat belt or child safety seat. In the second pre-GHSA 2022 Annual Meeting webinar, sponsored by the Auto Glass Safety Council, after hearing about the role windshields play in occupant protection, join experts from public health, community organizations, the private sector and law enforcement to learn what approaches they’re taking to improve the safety of vehicle occupants.

The Role of Traffic Safety Culture in Addressing Roadway Fatalities

Host: NCS, Road to Zero Coalition
July 20, 2022 | 10:30 am PT | Register
It will take decisive action to address the 42,915 deaths we saw on our streets last year. It will also take a shift in our culture that currently accepts those deaths and a shift in a shift in how we communicate about traffic safety and prioritize it in our work as transportation stakeholders. This 90-minute webinar will explore knowledge of the role traffic safety culture plays in addressing fatalities, examine current research including that around fear-based messaging vs. positive messaging, knowledge, and provide examples of promising practices around developing a positive traffic safety culture. Attendees will learn of the role traffic safety culture plays in addressing traffic safety through messaging and implementation, and ways that practitioners can begin improving their own work to create a society where zero is the only acceptable number of deaths on our streets.

NTSB Most Wanted List Virtual Roundtable: .05 BAC, Part 1: Past, Present & Future

Host:  NTSB

CONFERENCES

National Alliance to Stop Impaired Driving Annual Conference

Jul 27 – 29, 2022

Host: National Alliance to Stop Impaired Driving (NASID)

U.S. traffic fatalities have increased to historic levels in 2021, with early NHTSA projections exceeding 40,000 deaths. FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

Application Deadline: ATRC Go Human Kit of Parts Pilot Program

Sponsor: ATRC/Go Human/California Walks

The Active Transportation Resource Center (ATRC) Go Human Kit of Parts Pilot Program will work with three (3) agencies from Northern and Central California, as well as the Southern California region to pilot a statewide program modeled after Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) Go Human Kit of Parts.

SCAG’s Go Human Kit of Parts is a lending library of pop-up materials to temporarily demonstrate potential and planned street design treatments and safety infrastructure to create safer and more inviting public spaces. The Go Human Kit of Parts includes materials to showcase five street treatments. Temporary safety demonstrations create opportunities for residents to experience streets that are re-designed for safety in live traffic settings, test out, refine, and identify support for improvements.

The Pilot Program will provide the three (3) selected agencies with an opportunity to plan and implement a one-day to one-week active transportation temporary demonstration project, with the goal of accomplishing a piece of the community engagement piece to a future Active Transportation Program(ATP) application or other grant opportunities.
