During Pedestrian Safety Month, Walk and Roll to School Day encourages children and their guardians to incorporate activity into their commute and consider how to make active routes to school safer for all.

October 8, 2025 marks Walk and Roll to School Day! Led by the National Center for Safe Routes to School, children and their guardians are encouraged to walk or roll to school to increase the awareness for the need of walkable communities, promote physical activity, and create safer streets for all. Whether addressing the need to make active routes to school safer or encouraging children to be more active, Walk and Roll to School Day events can be powerful tools to inspire lasting change. Equally important, they are lots of fun! Communities are welcome to celebrate any day in October that best fits their schedules.
This year, submit your best photos of your community's active travel to school to the Walk and Roll to School Day image contest. They welcome images that highlight:
- Students, with families, community leaders, and others walking, rolling (with buckled helmets!), and/or otherwise engaging in active travel to school.
- Groups of children and adults as well as close-ups of individuals.
- Vibrant, active moments that highlight participation and community spirit.
