Safety Story with Esther Rivera of California Walks

Stories from the Field with Esther Rivera

For this video installment of Stories from the Field, we're excited to share a recent conversation with Esther Rivera, Deputy Director of California Walks, an organization that partners with state agencies, organizations and communities to establish and strengthen policies and practices that support pedestrian safety and healthy, walkable communities. In this safety story, Rivera shares her passion for social justice, public health and creating healthier communities that are safe for walking and biking for all ages and abilities. She also discusses the importance of letting the community lead in identifying solutions for advancing safe, active travel in their neighborhoods.

This story is part of the Stories from the Field Series, where we share stories of successes, lessons learned, best practices and tools for promoting safe active transportation throughout the state of California. It is a great opportunity to share your own experiences with others what works and to learn from one another how to encourage safe and active travel.

This Stories From the Field interview was conducted in collaboration with UC Berkeley SafeTREC. The opinions and perspectives expressed are those of the interviewee and not necessarily those of SafeTREC.
