COVID-19 has changed the way people move through a city and reshaped city systems overall. In response to this, NACTO has published Streets for Pandemic Response and Recovery, which is a resource that illustrates strategies on street redesign and adaptation for cities to use both during the COVID-19 crisis and in the recovery process. The compilation resource demonstrates how transit agencies worldwide have adopted creative tactics to quickly alter their existing assets to fit the current social distancing needs. In an effort to keep cities and their residents moving, NACTO points out the importance of solutions that are both equitable and sustainable as the pandemic has amplified structural inequities across communities.

The resource includes information on emerging practices, such as pop-up bike lanes, transit lanes and sidewalks, curbside pick-up and delivery, and outdoor dining to name a few. Streets for Pandemic Response and Recovery is a living document that will be revised and expanded regularly to keep up with the most recent data and city strategies. The document is meant to provide “flexible and creative guidance” on how to quickly and effectively respond to COVID-19. Find more information here
