The newest addition to CATSIP is our Safe System Approach to Road Safety resource page which features background on the approach, its principles, elements, and resources both within the United States and internationally. You can find our new Safe System page under our “Resources” tab.
What is the Safe System Approach to Road Safety?
To reach the goal of zero deaths on our roadways, traffic safety professionals and advocates have called for changing the way we think about road safety. The Safe System Approach provides this new framework of thinking and moves us away from the assumption that traffic deaths are inevitable and should be our main focus when we approach road safety planning. Instead, the Safe System Approach focuses on the reduction of fatal and severe injuries when a crash occurs through the use of vehicle or roadway design and the management of our infrastructure.
The resources on our page are divided into five categories:
-

-
Publications, Reports
-

Community Approaches
More and more transportation agencies and organizations are adopting the Safe System Approach. Our resource page is continuously being updated as more studies, reports, events and other materials are created under the Safe System Approach. Do you know of a Safe System resource we can add to the list? Please let us know at safetrec@berkeley.edu.
