World Day of Remembrance 2020

Each year on the third Sunday of November a day of commemoration takes place - The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDR). This annual Poster for 2020 World Day of Remembranceevent began 25 years ago. This year, #WDoR2020 will take place on Sunday, November 15th, 2020.

This high-profile event is recognized and observed globally to remember the many millions of victims who have lost their lives or been seriously injured on roads. This day is intended to acknowledge the suffering of all its victims including the families and communities who have been affected. Each year, millions more are added to the suffering.

The World Day of Remembrance serves as a tool for both the community and government agencies to demonstrate and bring to light the scale at which road death and injury occur.

In addition to paying tribute to victims and families, World Day of Remembrance also pays tribute to the many emergency response teams such as police and medical professionals who work daily on the traumatic aftermath of road crashes.

The primary objectives of World Day of Remembrance 2020 are:

  1. To remember the victims - those who have been killed or seriously injured.
  2. To acknowledge the work that has been done and continues to be done by emergency services
  3. To bring attention to the legal responsibility that is often lacking in response to road death and injury
  4. To promote evidence-based actions in taking preventative measures to end road traffic death and injury
