New Report: Dangerous by Design 2021

For over a decade, Smart Growth America and the National Complete Streets Coalition have released an annual report documenting the state of pedestrian safety in the United States, and ranking how deadly it is to walk in a state or metropolitan area. The data in the latest release, "Dangerous by Design 2021" is stark and alarming.

Pedestrian fatalities are up 45 percent from 2010-2019

Between 2010-2019, drivers struck and killed 53,435 people while walking, which is more than 14 people per day on average. This edition of the report also reveals that pedestrian fatalities were up 45 percent during that period. In addition, "49 states and 84 of the 100 largest metro areas have become moreCover of the Dangerous by Design 2021 report dangerous compared to the decade of data covered in Dangerous By Design 2019."
