America Walks Community Change Grant Program

America Walks has partnered with  Active People, Health Nations to sponsor another round of the  Community Change Grant program. This program provides grantees with $1,500.00 in community stipends for projects related to creating healthy, active, and engaged places to live, work, and play. The aim is to provide support to a growing network of advocates, organizations, and agencies using innovative, engaging, and inclusive programs and projects to create change at the community level.

The goal for this year’s round of Community Change Grants is to consider issues that are too often considered in isolation, including, but not limited to:

  • Racism and the public sphere;

  • Climate and environmental justice;

  • Access and inclusion;

  • Walking and moving as a mechanism for bringing about political change; and

  • how COVID-19, the need for economic recovery and a growing awakening around racial injustice might alter the landscape of our work.

Proposed projects are encouraged to have a particular focus on engaging in key issues of the day with new perspectives and diverse partners/ audiences while highlighting the vital role that walking and transportation patterns can play in a new era.

Applications open October 5th and are due through submission of this form by November 9th at 5 pm Eastern.

2020-2021 Sustainable Communities Program

Since 2005, the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) various sustainability planning grant programs (Compass Blueprint, Sustainability Planning Grants, Sustainable Communities Program) have provided resources and direct technical assistance to jurisdictions to complete important local planning efforts and enable implementation of the Regional Transportation Plan and Sustainable Communities Strategy (RTP/SCS), which today is called Connect SoCal. The 2020-2021 Sustainable Communities Program (SCP) will provide local jurisdictions with multiple opportunities to seek funding and resources to meet the needs of their communities, address recovery and resiliency strategies considering COVID-19, and support regional goals.

SCAG will release Calls for Applications throughout the Fiscal Year 2020-2021 to select projects within different program areas and funding categories. This approach will support local jurisdictions and agencies with resources for strategies related to active transportation, transportation safety, removing barriers to housing production, smart permitting, and integrated land use, among others.

Applications are now being accepted for projects with a focus on Active Transportation & Safety (AT&S). Applicants can apply for any of the three project types below within the AT&S program area:

  • Community or Area Wide Plans

  • Quick Build Projects

  • Network Visioning & Implementation

Learn more about the call for applications here. More details about each project type, program area goals, and the SCP overall can also be found in the Sustainable Communities Program AT&S GuidelinesThe deadline for the AT&S Call for Applications is November 13, 2020.
