California Office of Traffic Safety 2022 Grant ApplicationsOTS Logo

Each year, through grant funding made available to California by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) provides funding for innovative, evidence based programs and technologies designed to make California's roadways safer. The Federal Fiscal Year 2022 application period (December 7, 2020 - January 31, 2020) is now open. Caltrans Sustainable Transportation Planning GrantsCaltrans logo

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has released the Fiscal Year (FY) 2021-22 Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant Application Guide and call-for-applications. A total of $34 million is available for transportation planning projects statewide.

The Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant Program includes:

  • Sustainable Communities Grants ($29.5 million) to encourage local and regional planning that furthers state goals, including, but not limited to, the goals and best practices cited in the Regional Transportation Plan Guidelines adopted by the California Transportation Commission.
  • Strategic Partnerships Grants ($4.5 million) to identify and address statewide, interregional, or regional transportation deficiencies on the State highway system in partnership with Caltrans. A sub-category funds transit-focused planning projects that address multimodal transportation deficiencies.

SACOG 2021 Regional ProgramSACOG logo

The Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) has released a call for projects for the 2021 Regional Program. The flexible Regional Program funds cost-effective transportation projects that realize the performance benefits of the Metropolitan Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy. There is a funding target of $163 million for the 2021 program, which includes two categories: Transformative (projects may include roadway expansion, new transit service, e.g.) and Maintenance & Modernization (projects may include bicycle/pedestrian path/trail, complete streets or safety improvements, e.g.).

Applications to the Maintenance & Modernization category are due January 15, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. Applications to the Transformative category are due February 1, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. Visit the SACOG program page for program details, and links to program application and guidelines.
