Looking for funding opportunities to support active transportation projects in Southern California? Apply today for The Southern California Association of Governments’ (SCAG) Sustainable Communities Program (SCP)!
Earlier this week, SCAG launched their 2024 Sustainable Communities Program to fund projects that improve roadway safety and achieve the mobility goals outlined in the Connect SoCal 2024 Plan. The program will award up to $10.4 million to active transportation projects within the SCAG region, which encompasses the counties of Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura.
The program is funded by both Caltrans’ Active Transportation Program and the United States Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All grant. All projects should aim to:
-
Improve mobility across the region, especially for children and older adults, and people walking, biking, riding public transit, and using other forms of active transportation;
-
Strategically invest in communities most harmed by traffic injuries and fatalities, including the historically underserved communities comprising the majority of the Regional High Injury Network;
-
Support a more resilient transportation network, especially in anticipation of the large-scale events hosted by the region; and
-
Support local efforts to increase competitiveness for state and federal funding.
The program is eligible to:
-
Local or regional agencies;
-
Caltrans;
-
Transit agencies;
-
Natural resources or public land agencies;
-
Public schools or school districts;
-
Tribal governments; and
-
Private nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations that are responsible for the management of public lands.
Applications are due Friday, September 27, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. and anyone interested can apply online today! The SCAG website lists the program guidelines, scoring rubric, program timeline, and additional information.
