What comes to mind when you hear "Parks and Rec?"
Some immediately think of National Parks, local playgrounds, recreational centers and summer camps. Some think of the hit NBC TV series, Parks and Recreation. But, parks and recreation is so much more than that. The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is celebrating July as Park and Recreation Month! NRPA wants us all to dive deeper, redefine and undiscover other crucial aspects of local parks and recreation, like science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programming; senior programs; innovative health and wellness opportunities; community celebrations; outdoor education; flood mitigation; maintenance; and more. In efforts to promote a lifetime of discovery, this would be a great discussion topic to have with schools, parents and community organizations-- how can we improve safe access to and within parks?
NRPA has compiled a list of resources including a start guide, toolkit and tips on how to promote fun activities like photo contests and open house events.
