Knight Foundation Publishes Guide to Livable Cities

March 3, 2015

With funding from the Knight Foundation8-80 Cities, a Toronto-based nonprofit dedicated to transforming cities, will help civic innovators make their communities more vibrant places where people can walk, bike, and access better transit options. The funding will support a conference, city learning tours, fellowships, and residencies for leaders from communities where Knight invests.

To kick off the project, the Knight Foundation has published the Guide to Livable Cities, which compiles best practices for walkability, bikeability, public spaces, public transportation, and more. The guide not only provides actionable steps for civic innovators who want to make their cities more livable, but it also shows how to garner the broad community support needed to move forward.

The name "8-80 Cities" comes from the idea that if you design cities for eight- and 80-year olds, they’ll work for everyone.
