U.S. Bicycle Route System Best Practices Report

The U.S. Bicycle Route System (USBRS) is a developing network of officially numbered interstate bicycle routes that connect America’s cities, suburbs, and rural areas. To date, 8,043 miles of U.S. Bicycle Routes have been established in 16 states, and more than 40 states are working to create U.S. Bicycle Routes. Projects to help create U.S. Bicycle Routes can be supported through federal, state, and private funds.
 
The U.S. Bicycle Route System aims to provide an interconnected, national network of cycling routes geared toward medium- and long-distance bike travel. Benefits include:
