UC Berkeley SafeTREC is excited to announce the launch of the redesigned Transportation Injury Mapping System (TIMS) website, including the integration of the Safety Heat Map, easier navigation, and more!
For over 20 years, the Transportation Injury Mapping System (TIMS) developed by UC Berkeley SafeTREC has enabled quick, easy and free access to California crash data. With the redesign, the goal was to create a single, centralized platform for all one’s data needs. The new TIMS is more powerful and easier to navigate, helping you find what you need faster to advance safer walking, biking, and rolling in your community. We encourage you to explore the new site and see the changes for yourself.

What’s New?
-
A Unified Platform: We’ve integrated the Safety Heat Map tools directly into TIMS. No more switching between sites—all our key tools are now in one place.
-
Updated Data and Analysis Pages: Divided into Crash Summaries, Analysis and Visualizations, and AV Safety.
-
A Streamlined Experience: With updated branding and visuals, the site is cleaner and more intuitive.
Navigating the redesigned site
Crash Summaries
This section includes four tools that aggregate maps, tables, and charts to summarize key traffic safety crash trends in California on a state, county, and city level. These tools are focused on providing an overview of traffic safety crashes in California. If you are looking to get the number of annual pedestrian deaths or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) crashes for example, these tools are right for you. These tools include the Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS) Summary, Traffic Safety Data Dashboard, DUI Crash Summary and Map, and Weekly Crash Trends.
Analysis and Visualizations
This section includes seven different crash and geospatial analysis tools that allow users to visualize and compare SWITRS data across California. These tools were created to meet a wide variety of users' needs, from creating a simple crash map of crashes happening in any city in California to looking at pedestrian or bicyclist crashes in the vicinity of California schools. These tools include the SWITRS Query and Map, SWITRS GIS Map, Safety Heat Map, Safe Routes to School Map, Safety Performance Measure Target Setting, ATP Maps and Summary Data, and Motorcycle Crash Map.
Autonomous Vehicle Safety
This section includes two dashboards that visualize autonomous vehicle (AV) crashes and mileage in California reported through the AV Testing and AV Driverless Testing Permits from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The Autonomous Vehicles (AV) Safety Dashboard allows users to visualize all the reported crash incidents from 2014-2025 and the Autonomous Vehicles Mileage Dashboard allows users to visualize all reported mileage data from 2019-2024 for autonomous vehicles with AV Testing and AV Driverless Testing Permits from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) during that time.
