Observed annually in June by the National Safety Council, National Safety Month focuses on reducing leading causes of injury and death at work, on the road, and in our homes and communities. In concert to this month’s theme of safety, we compiled a list of upcoming webinars around safe walkability and bikeability. How do we redesign places that put people first? How do we create safe spaces for all community members?

The Active Transportation Resource Center is hosting a webinar that will provide an overview of older adult mobility patterns, pedestrian and bicycle safety considerations for active aging, resources for developing Safe Routes for Older Adults programs, and lessons learned from a local Safe Routes for Older Adults pilot program.

Caltrans District 4 has released the first-ever Bike Plan for the San Francisco Bay Area! The report provides a summary of the process that was undertaken to develop the Plan, which included gathering input from local and regional partners and stakeholders, as well as conducting public outreach efforts like an online mapping survey, focus group meetings, community workshops, and an online comment tool.

The Children's Safety Network (CSN) will be hosting a free webinar on Monday, April 30, 2018 to provide an overview of data on pedestrian-related fatalities among children and describe the efforts of two organizations, the National Center for Safe Routes to School and Safe Kids Worldwide, to reduce risks to child pedestrians.

The Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center (PBIC) will be hosting a free webinar on Tuesday, April 10 to discuss steps to take to prioritize safety improvements at crosswalk

The City of Oakland is updating their Bike Plan and they want to hear from you! 

From 2007 to 2016, pedestrian fatalities increased 27%, while all other traffic deaths decreased by 14%. Pedestrian deaths are also accounting for a larger proportion of traffic fatalities then they have in the past 33 years.

The second annual PlacesForBikes conference is coming up and will take place in Indianapolis, Indiana this year from May 1-3. This is a great opportunity to join hundreds of leaders and thinkers to focus together on how to build and support better and safer bicycle infrastructure!
