The US Department of Transportation has launched a new $1 billion dollar discretionary grant program to reconnect communities previously affected by transportation infrastructure like highways and rail lines. The Reconnecting Communities Pilot (RCP) Program is the first of its kind to designate federal funding to help reconnect communities previously cut off from opportunities by this infrastructure. The Program was made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) that the Biden administration launched in 2021.
For fiscal year 2022, the RCP program will provide up to $195 million for projects that include public engagement, planning activities, capital construction projects, or technical assistance in order to reconnect communities who have been impacted by the barriers created by transportation infrastructure. Projects could include solutions like high-quality public transportation, the removal of infrastructure, or the revitalization of main streets.
Those interested in applying for the program are encouraged to visit the RCP Program website to access the Notice Of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) and learn about program eligibility, funding, application and submission processes, and evaluation criteria.
The application submission deadline is Thursday, October 13, 2022. The program encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds, regardless of their size, location, or experience of administering Federal funding awards.
