Join the celebration and walk to school on National Walk to School Day.

On Wednesday, October 6, schools across the United States will celebrate National Walk to School Day. Registration is now open and anyone is welcome to join! You can register schools, neighborhoods or families to pledge to walk to school so you can celebrate in the safest way possible under your current public health guidelines.

To support those working to advance pedestirian and bicycle safety, we have recently updated our County Data: Pedestrian & Bike Collisions webpage with the latest crash data, including county-specific pedestrian and bicycle collision data from 2016 - 2020 (SWITRS 2016 - 2020/Provisional 2019 - 2020 update as of September, 2021).

The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) recently released a new report, "Pedestrian Traffic Fatalities by State: 2020 Preliminary Data" that provides an indepth overview of state and national trends in pedestrian traffic fatalities for January - December, 2020.

Celebrate Bike Month with ATRC's new Bicycle Transportation course!

Just in time for the upcoming National Bike Month this May, the Active Transportation Resource Center (ATRC) has launched a new self-paced, online introductory bike course, "Bicycle Transportation: Basic Principles of Planning & Design."

According to the latest data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 28,190 people died in motor vehicle crashes from January through September, 2020, an increase of 4.6 percent from the same period in 2019.  In California, according to provisional SWITRS data for 2019, the number of pedestrians killed in 2019 was 1,030, an increase of 48 fatalities from 2017.
